Application and mixing

300 mL/ha Typical pasture application rate. You add the water when preparing the spray tank.

Coverage

  • 1 litre treats approximately 3.3 hectares.
  • One 20-litre container treats approximately 66 hectares at the typical rate.

Mixing order

  1. Part-fill the tank: fill the spray tank one-third to one-half with clean water and begin agitation.
  2. Add SILARA N30: add the required amount while maintaining agitation.
  3. Add compatible products: add other fertilisers, trace elements or additives according to their label directions.
  4. Top up: fill the tank to the required water volume and maintain agitation through mixing and application.

Best results

  • Apply to actively growing pasture and other suitable cropping, horticulture and viticulture systems. Confirm the appropriate rate, timing and compatibility for the intended crop and programme with Bio Charge. The 300 mL/ha rate is the typical pasture rate.
  • Maintain agitation during mixing and application.

Research-led product development

Published silicon research provides a strong biological rationale for evaluating SILARA N30. The studies below used other silicon formulations, application methods and growing conditions, so their findings should not be treated as guaranteed SILARA N30 results.

Pasture and perennial ryegrass A 2025 perennial ryegrass study using another foliar silicon product reported improvements in root dry mass, root-to-shoot ratio and shoot dry mass. Its gross silica application was similar to the loading calculated for SILARA N30 at 300 mL/ha, although the products were chemically different.

Kiwifruit research pathway Recent research in ‘Hayward’ kiwifruit using orthosilicic acid reported higher firmness and lower weight loss, respiration and ethylene production during storage and ripening.

Potato research pathway Field research using foliar silicon reported early-tuber yield responses in two seasons. The tested elemental-silicon rate closely brackets the approximate loading at the SILARA N30 pasture rate, although the product form and crop use differ.

What this evidence means

SILARA N30 is designed for pasture, cropping, horticulture and viticulture programmes. Confirm crop-specific rates, timing and compatibility with Bio Charge. The studies below used different silicon forms, rates, crops and environments. They support the biological rationale and trial design, but they are not proof that SILARA N30 will reproduce the same results. Product-specific New Zealand trials are required before outcome claims are made.

Primary use: pasture

Roots, recovery and dry matter

A 2025 perennial ryegrass study using another foliar silicon product reported 12.5% more root dry mass and 4.5% more shoot dry mass across the experiment. Its 100 g SiO₂/ha application was close to the gross loading calculated for SILARA N30 at 300 mL/ha, but the formulations and conditions differ.

Kiwifruit firmness and storage

Recent ‘Hayward’ research using orthosilicic acid reported higher firmness and lower weight loss, respiration and ethylene during storage and ripening. This supports New Zealand trial work; it is not a SILARA N30 orchard claim.

Direct sweet-cherry research using other silicon treatments has reported lower cracking and improved firmness, including a 71% lower cracking index in one 2025 study. A SILARA N30 cherry programme still requires its own crop-safety, rate and timing validation.
